Local sailors will be looking to stamp their mark in this weekend’s Rarotonga Sailing Club Sunburst Championships held at Muri.

The regatta to be held on Saturday will help get the two-handed crews match-ready for the National Sunburst Championships taking place at the end of this month.

Club captain Gareth Clayton says: “The Club Sunburst Championships will be a highly competitive event if last year is anything to go by and we can expect high drama on and off the water. Everybody is welcome to come down and see the action. The racing is fast paced, tactical and entertaining, and a great opportunity for kids to watch, learn and be inspired.”

The Sunburst is a two-handed, 3.5 metre (11 ft.) sailing dinghy. The boat is popular with beginner and practised sailors.

The honour of winning this weekend’s Club Championship will carry special significance this year as 2020 marks the Rarotonga Sailing Club’s 80th anniversary.

The event will start with the race briefing at 10.30am with first race scheduled at 11am.

All competitors are to have registered at the registration desk at the Club prior to 10.30am.

There is no entry fee for club members but $10 for non-members, payable upon registration.
